Allium

Things I collect and experience on a daily basis influence my aesthetics and I am translating what I see into new imagined environments.

In Allium, I created forms inspired by garlic cloves and their husks, hung together in a cluster, bringing each small component together to create a larger form. The light plays with the gold leaf inside, catching small pieces of it shimmering here and there. The translucent, organic quality, seems delicate like it will disintegrate or crumple if touched, much like the garlic husks that inspired them.

While I was cooking in my kitchen, I found myself intrigued by the pattern on the end of the garlic when all the cloves were pulled off. I loved the delicate nature of the husk that would remain somewhat intact if I was patient and careful enough when pulling off the cloves. I saw the shapes of the stems in the middle of the base as humorous characters interacting with each other when they were lined up together.

I took these two dimensional explorations of the garlic clove into three dimensional forms exploring the husk of the garlic and how it contains the clove. I quilted silk tissue and silk organza along with gilded pages from a French ballet instruction book to create forms resembling a garlic clove.

Commission Inquiry

If you are interested in working with me to design an installation for your space, please contact me or fill out the form below. This is truly one of my favorite things to do and I love how this work influences a space so dramatically.

I aim to be as clear and transparent about the commission process as possible. We would begin by chatting so I can learn about you and gain personalized design inspiration. We would take a look at images of your space and discuss ideas. From there I would create a few mock-up designs, and once you chose the final design we would plan a time for me to come do the install in your space. The investment is dependent upon the size and scope of the project, and the installation time is built into the cost. A 50% commission deposit is required before the creative process begins, and final payment is due at the time of the installation. I look forward to working with you!
